Eagle blue, week 7, post 1

3 examples of figurative language

"...Gusts of wind are whipping the runway..." (264).
This is an example of personification. The winds cannot really whip the runway, this is a human quality that the wind obviously cannot do, but is a great comparison to how harsh the wind was.

"The Hustlers are ecstatic, leaping around the floor and hugging one another." (265).
This is an example of imagery because in my mind, a vivid picture is painted of how happy the Hustlers must have been when they won their game.

"It looks to Dave more like an alley fight than a basketball game." (268).
This is an example of a simile. This compares a basketball game to an alley fight. They boys on both teams were working incredibly hard, but not necessarily on scoring baskets. Some were more focused on keeping the other team as far away from other people as possible.

2 Vocab words

Caroms(267)-a collision followed by a rebound.

Chiding(268)-to express disapproval of; scold; reproach.
